✋ What is it?

This is an interaction solution found in the Instagram mobile apps that helps users to discover that a post contain multiple photos.

🤲 How does this interaction or solution work?

When viewing an Instagram post with multiple photos the user sees a label in the top right corner of the photo displaying '1/{Total Number of Photos}'.

Users can start swiping left to show the subsequent items in the post. To get back to the first photo they can swipe back towards the right.

These paging dots change their focus as the user swipes. (the whole paging dot row shift as they user swipes indicating that there's more content to discovered).

🙌 How does this interaction or solution work?

Discoverability and Visibility.

The paging dots below the photo, specifically how the right-most one grows when the user swipes for the first time delights the user into further exploring the post.

Once you swipe one time, you almost feel like you've begun a task that is not complete until you get to the last photo in the post.

By doing this Instagram allows the user to realize that there is more content to discover.
